Rope Suite
Steel wire rope judgment per ASME A17.6-2022 §1.10 (the authority A17.1 §8.6.3.2.1 points at). Counts are per rope lay, worst section — the code's own basis. This page reports which criterion is met; the QEI judges.
1 · Crown-wire breaks per lay
2 · Minimum diameter (Table 1.10.3-1)
§1.10.3: measure a straight portion at the worst location, two measurements at right angles. Both below the value → replace. Only one below → judge the breaks in card 1 under the Unfavorable column. Applies to suspension, compensation, and governor ropes.
Replacement values compute from Table 1.10.3-1's own general notes — < 8 mm: 3.125% max reduction; ≥ 8 mm: 6.25% normal/unfavorable, 3.125% where rouge shows — verified to reproduce the printed table. Rouge on a rope under 8 mm is replacement by itself (§1.10.1.2.1), and card 1 already says so.
3 · Replacing — the set rules (§1.10.4, §1.10.5)
- The whole set replaces together. One worn or damaged rope condemns the set (§1.10.4.3, §1.10.5) — with exactly one exception, next line.
- Single-rope exception: only where one rope was damaged during installation or acceptance testing, before elevator service, and all of: rope data matches the crosshead data tag; new rope gets its own tag; the set has never been shortened; every remaining rope measures no less than nominal − 0.015 in. (0.4 mm); the new rope's tension is checked and adjusted semimonthly for at least 2 months — and if equalization cannot be held after 6 months, the whole set replaces after all (§1.10.5.1–.6).
- New, never reused (§1.10.4.2), all from one manufacturer, same material, grade, construction, and diameter (§1.10.4.4).
- Like-for-like or better — as specified by the OEM or at least equivalent in strength, weight, and design (§1.10.4.1).
- Data tags per A17.1 §2.20.2.2 (§1.10.4.5); fastenings per A17.1 §2.20.9 (§1.10.4.6).
- Never lengthen or splice suspension, compensating, or governor ropes (A17.1 §8.6.2.5).
